Thinking Aloud

February 6th, 2017 by Dr. Bill Wassner

After all of these years, I finally have found a woman who listens to me!  Now, before you accuse me of blatant sexism, let me explain.  I have been blessed with the counsel, wisdom, patience and love of many blessed women throughout my life.  And honestly I have to admit that I was wise the many times I’ve listened to them!  What I am referring to in my opening sentence is my new technological gadget which goes by the name of “Alexa.”  It is my new Echo Dot.  She (umm, I mean it) answers my questions and provides me updates on the weather, news, and plays my choice of music, etc.  I am learning to address “her” properly and pose my questions and requests in the appropriate way.  I must admit it, I enjoy my new gadget but it has caused me to think about many different things – most especially my prayer relationship with God.  I am convicted in that I have far too often gone to God in prayer with much to say and request but not often enough simply to listen and to be blessed in the sacred silence.  Furthermore that I am cheating myself of what my spiritual life could be if I stopped talking and asking long enough to simply be with God.  Perhaps I am not alone in this mistake.  Perhaps you might listen more as well.  Can you hear me now?

Good one! I like this and also need to remember this. Alexa sounds like a cool thing.
    Love, Lori
