“Comfort, comfort my people, says God”
New to St. Paul’s United Church of Christ this year is our Blue Christmas Worship Service. The Blue Christmas Service will be held in our chapel on Sunday, December 18, 2016 at 4:30 PM. St. Paul’s is trying to reach those who feel little comfort and joy amid the celebratory season.
There are many moments in our lives when we need comfort. There are tough times when we yearn for consolation. The suffering people who looked for the long-awaited Messiah were given a hope-filled image of God in the writings of Isaiah and the prophets. They express the belief that no matter what happens to us, God will be there to comfort and support us.
Christmas can be a time for many when some are in need of that reassurance and comfort. Some people may be grieving for a loved one with whom they shared Christmases past. For others, who may have experienced divorce, abuse or other family trauma, the last thing they want to hear about is coming home for the holidays. Still others simply may be stressed because of holiday expectations. Perhaps some are struggling with illness, or have experienced the loss of a job. Good people of faith can wonder how they will get through the holidays.
During the service, Stars of Memories will be hung on the Christmas tree to mark our loss and our faith itself. Please join us!
