Special and Seasonal Worship Services

St. Paul’s United Church of Christ celebrates the seasons of the church year and also has many special worship services for other times.  The services are listed in the order in which they occur during the church year.

Advent  -and-  Christmas

The First Sunday of Advent is also the first Sunday of the church year.  After the Fourth Sunday of Advent, the Season of Advent concludes with two special services on Christmas Eve.

In 2017, Christmas Eve will fall on a Sunday.  Our Family Worship Service (Discovery Worship) will be held at 10 AM, and our Candlelight Worship Service (Traditional Worship) will be held at 10 PM.

Blue Christmas Worship Service

Christmas can be a stressful and difficult time for many people.  Whether it be the loss of a loved one, the change in a family situation, or worries at work, many people just do not feel the joy of the Christmas Season.  St. Paul’s is trying to reach those who feel little comfort and joy amid the celebratory season by hosting the Blue Christmas Worship Service in our chapel.

The service includes the singing of a couple of carols, prayer, and meditation.  During the service, Stars of Memories will be hung on the Christmas tree to mark our loss and our faith itself.  You are welcome to join us!

The Blue Christmas Worship Service:   4:30 PM on Sunday, December 10, 2017.

Lent  -and-  Easter

Lent begins on Ash Wednesday with a special worship service that includes altar communion.  Young people receive the Rite of Confirmation on Palm SundayMaundy Thursday offers a special worship service which is a favorite of many in the Congregation of St. Paul’s.

Bluegrass Sunday

Celebrate a special music Sunday with the Bailey Family.  Bluegrass Sunday takes place at various times during the year, but typically it is in either the late summer or early fall months.  Whenever it is, one thing is for sure:  the Congregation of St. Paul’s is in for a treat!  The Bailey Family loves to play and worship God together, and it shows.

Children’s Sabbath:  Youth Sunday

St. Paul’s celebrate the Youth of St. Paul’s with  Youth Sunday.  In observance of Children’s Sabbath, the Youth of St. Paul’s lead the Congregation in all aspects of  worship  for this day.

Memorial Sunday

On Memorial Sunday, the Congregation of St. Paul’s honors the members and friends of St. Paul’s who have passed away.  Memorial Sunday is typically the first Sunday in November.

In 2016, we began a new tradition.  Dr. Bill Wassner, our Senior Pastor, spoke about each of the members and friends we lost over the past twelve months.   In addition, members of the Congregation were invited to bring pictures of loved ones who were no longer living.  At a special time in the service,  those pictures were placed on the altar.

Memorial Sunday will be October 29, 2017.

Thanksgiving Service of Prayer

We celebrate Thanksgiving by presenting our Thanksgiving Service of Prayer in the St. Paul’s Chapel.  Please join us for a service of prayer as we offer thanks for the many blessings bestowed upon us by the LORD.

Thanksgiving Service of Prayer:  5:30 PM, on Tuesday, November 14, 2017.
