Special and Seasonal Worship Services

St. Paul’s United Church of Christ celebrates the seasons of the church year and also has many special worship services for other times.  The services are listed in the order in which they occur during the church year.

The First Sunday of Advent is also the first Sunday of the church year.  After the Fourth Sunday of Advent, the Season of Advent concludes with two special services on Christmas Eve.

Blue Christmas

Christmas can be a stressful and difficult time for many people.  Whether it be the loss of a loved one, the change in a family situation, or worries at work, many people just do not feel the joy of the Christmas Season.  St. Paul’s is trying to reach those who feel little comfort and joy amid the celebratory season by hosting the Blue Christmas Worship Service in our chapel.

The service includes the singing of a couple of carols, prayer, and meditation.  During the service, Stars of Memories will be hung on the Christmas tree to mark our loss and our faith itself.  You are welcome to join us!

Christmas Eve

St. Paul’s presents two completely different worship services on Christmas Eve.   Our Family Worship Service (Discovery Worship) is generally held in the afternoon, and our Candlelight Worship Service (Traditional Worship) is usually held in the late evening.

St. Paul’s celebrate the Youth of St. Paul’s with  Youth Sunday.  In observance of Children’s Sabbath, the Youth of St. Paul’s lead the Congregation in all aspects of  worship  for this day.

Reformation Sunday

On Reformation Sunday, the Congregation of St. Paul’s celebrates The Protestant Reformation of 1517.  The Reformation began when Martin Luther posted The Ninety-Five Theses which criticized the abuses and totalitarian control of the Roman Catholic Church.

Memorial Sunday

On Memorial Sunday, the Congregation of St. Paul’s honors the members and friends of St. Paul’s who have passed away.

In our tradition at St. Paul’s,  Dr. Bill Wassner, our Senior Pastor, speaks about each of the members and friends St. Paul’s has lost over the previous twelve months.   Congregation members bring pictures of any loved ones who were no longer living, and at a special time in the service,  place the pictures on the altar.
